The founder of MWC Stafford was an RAF wife, Sheryl Godwin, based at Stafford. She set up the choir in October 2013 with a view to giving the Stafford ladies the same positive and inspiring experience she had in Benson.
The choir enables ladies with a military connection living in and around Stafford to meet up each week for friendship and singing, as well as the odd cake and coffee night! Last year the choir was fortunate to gain Sue Brereton-Banks as Musical Director and has gone from strength to strength ever since. The choir has also grown in number thanks to an influx to the base from two large German regiments in 2015, so now have a variety of talents to offer as well as singing, from flutists to violinists and even a poet. The ladies have loved working on the new Home for Christmas album and cannot wait to see what other exciting opportunities the new year holds. We have now performed at a number of both free and paid events, including the MOD Stafford Christmas Carol Service, the Stoke Minster carol service, on stage with Lulu on her UK tour, and for the veterans at the DIY SOS project in Manchester.
We love our weekly rehearsals (our ‘me time’), giving us a chance to catch up and then rehearse ready for our next event. It is a great place to meet people we wouldn’t otherwise have come across and we provide much needed support for each other.
